Competence Group 2 - CG2

Training: Programme Development & Organisation

CG2 is dedicated to strengthening the skills, professionalism, and safety culture of Europe’s drone operators. Recognising that a competitive and trusted drone sector depends on qualified people, this group develops standardised training frameworks that can be recognised across Europe.

The group’s work covers both the content and structure of training: from modular curricula to exam standards, and from operator certificates to training organisation requirements. By aligning these elements, CG2 ensures that training delivers real competence, not just compliance.

Current priorities include:

  • Designing a certificate framework for specific training programmes that combine theoretical knowledge with practical skills.

  • Developing pre-conditions for examinations, ensuring fair, transparent, and consistent assessments across Europe.

  • Setting standards for training organisations, including requirements for facilities, instructors, and quality assurance.

  • Facilitating train-the-trainer initiatives and sharing best practices among national associations.

By creating a common approach to training, CG2 supports a professional workforce of drone pilots and operators, enabling safe, scalable, and trusted operations across Europe.
