Technical Documents

This section gathers key technical references, standards, and working documents relevant to the technical and operational aspects of Europe’s drone and air mobility ecosystem.

It serves as a practical resource for engineers, manufacturers, operators, and authorities seeking clarity on evolving technical requirements.

IAM Hub- Innovative Air Mobility Hub

The Sustainable Innovative Air Mobility (IAM) Hub is a digital platform created under the Drone Strategy 2.0 to support the safe, efficient, and sustainable introduction of new air mobility services across Europe — from drone operations to passenger transport by eVTOL aircraft.

It connects cities, authorities, industry, and EU institutions, offering reliable and up-to-date information, guidelines, and data on IAM-related topics.

You can access all relevant materials and best practices directly on the IAM Hub website.

EASA - European Aviation Safety Agency

EASA is setting up rules for flying drones and VTOLs in Europe, to define how they are designed, manufactured and operated as technologies for drones and Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft are evolving all the time.

Drone and eVTOL designs are subject to safety requirements depending on the design, complexity of the system and the risks posed to operators and the public.

You can find all relevant materials directly on the dedicated EASA website.

JARUS - Joint Authorities for Rulemaking on Unmanned Systems

JARUS is an international group of aviation experts that develops globally harmonised, performance-based regulations and guidance for unmanned aircraft operations.

Its recommendations form the basis for many national and regional drone frameworks, helping authorities and industry align on safety, certification, and BVLOS operational standards.

Further information and technical materials are available on the JARUS website.

ICAO - International Civil Aviation Organization

ICAO develops global Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), technical procedures, and guidance materials for unmanned aviation.

These resources help ensure safe, harmonised, and efficient integration of drones and Advanced Air Mobility systems worldwide.

You can access detailed information and documentation on the ICAO website.

EU-funded initiatives that guide the harmonisation of standards

AW-Drones project

The project supports the development of a harmonised and reliable framework for drone operations in Europe.

It maps existing standards and identifies best practices to align technical requirements, safety procedures, and regulatory guidance, enabling safe and scalable UAS operations.

The project also maintains an open repository of drone-related standards to assist EASA and the European Commission in ongoing rulemaking and policy development.

SESAR - Single European Sky ATM Research Programme

The SESAR programme leads Europe’s efforts to build a safe, connected, and scalable airspace where drones and IAM services can operate seamlessly alongside traditional aviation.

By advancing harmonisation, standardisation, and interoperability, SESAR develops the frameworks and technical foundations needed for the safe integration of UAS and U-space services across Europe.

EUSCG is a joint coordination and advisory body that aligns and oversees UAS standardisation activities across Europe, building on EU regulations and EASA rulemaking initiatives. It ensures a harmonised approach to integrating UAS into the aviation framework helping prevent overlaps and fill gaps in standards development.

EUSCG develops and maintains the European UAS Standardisation Rolling Development Plan (RDP) — the key reference for tracking, updating, and coordinating drone-related standards in Europe and linking them to international efforts.
